Dental implants
Replacing missing teeth with fixed teeth, anchored in the bone by an implant.
What it is
An implant is a small titanium screw placed in the bone, where the root of the missing tooth used to be. Once the bone has healed around it, we fit a crown, a bridge or a fixed denture on top. The result looks and works like a natural tooth, and the neighbouring teeth do not need to be filed down.
How it works
- 1
Assessment
We examine your mouth and take the scans needed to check the amount of bone.
- 2
Plan and quote
We explain the stages, the waiting time between them and the total cost.
- 3
Placing the implant
Done under local anaesthetic. You get written instructions for the following days.
- 4
Final tooth
Once the implant is firmly set in the bone, we fit the crown or denture.
Frequently asked questions
Does it hurt?
The implant is placed under local anaesthetic. There may be some discomfort in the following days, controlled with the medication prescribed.
Can everyone have implants?
Not always. It depends on the bone, the gums and your general health. Smoking and poorly controlled diabetes increase the risk. Only an assessment can tell.
How long does it take?
Usually a few months between placing the implant and fitting the final tooth, while the bone heals. In some cases a temporary tooth can be fitted sooner.
This information does not replace an appointment. Results vary from person to person and depend on the dentist's assessment.
